The importance of continuing your pursuit of wellness after being discharged from physical therapy
It is outside of a physical therapist’s scope of practice to prescribe medication. But as movement specialists, they can recommend therapeutic exercise so that patients maintain active lifestyles.
Physical therapists can recommend after therapy programs as well as teach patients how to manage their condition so that they receive long-term health benefits.
Our physical therapy practice wants you to become independent in the management of your condition. As a patient, you should be discharged with a plan to maintain the current therapeutic benefit from physical therapy as well as to prevent recurrence.
What exactly is wellness?
Wellness is an active process of becoming aware of and making choices toward a healthy and fulfilling life. Wellness is more than being free from illness, it is a dynamic process of change and growth. "...a state of complete physical, mental, and social well-being, and not merely the absence of disease or infirmity."
There are many different ways to maintain your after care. Here are a few ideas: (many of these are offered right here at MPT)
